HOW TO FIND THE PERFECT LOCATION FOR YOUR BRAND PHOTOSHOOT

HOW TO FIND THE PERFECT LOCATION FOR YOUR BRAND PHOTOSHOOT

When you’re trying to figure out how to find the perfect location for your brand photoshoot, the first thing to understand is that the space you choose is just as important as the outfits you wear or the props you bring. The environment shapes the entire mood of your session — the energy, the colours, the textures, and even the way you show up in front of the camera. A location isn’t just a backdrop; it’s a storytelling tool. It helps communicate who you are, what you value, and how you want your audience to feel when they interact with your brand.

A well‑chosen location can elevate your photos from “pretty pictures” to powerful brand assets that work for you across your website, social media, marketing materials, and every client touchpoint. When the environment aligns with your brand identity, your photos feel intentional, cohesive, and emotionally resonant — which is exactly why choosing the right location matters so much.

The most important thing to consider is how you want your brand to feel.

Before planning any photo session, you must be clear on what your brand represents. This is the foundation of everything — your visuals, your messaging, your tone, and yes, your photoshoot location.

Ask yourself:

  • How do I want to be seen by my clients?
  • What emotions do I want my brand to evoke?
  • Is my brand fun and playful? Calm and grounded? Artistic and expressive? Minimal and elevated?
  • What do I want people to feel the moment they land on my website or scroll through my Instagram feed?

Your answers will guide every decision you make — including where your photos should take place. A bright, airy brand will feel out of place in a dark industrial setting. A luxury brand may not shine in a cluttered or overly casual environment. A creative, expressive brand might feel too stiff in a corporate office.

If you’re still working through this part, The Art of Being Seen is a beautiful next step. It goes deeper into understanding your brand foundations and how you want to be seen in your business.

Why location matters more than you think

While location scouting can be fun, it can also feel overwhelming if you’ve never had a professional brand photoshoot before. Many people assume the location is just a background — something pretty to stand in front of. But the truth is, the right location:

  • reinforces your brand personality
  • influences the colours and tones in your photos
  • affects how comfortable and confident you feel
  • shapes the story your images tell
  • determines how versatile your final gallery will be
  • impacts how your audience perceives your professionalism and style

That’s why I’ve compiled a list of possibilities you can choose from. These are locations I’ve used with clients over the years, and each one offers something unique depending on your brand’s vibe and goals. Think of these as starting points — once you read through them, you’ll likely come up with even more ideas that fit your personality and business.

And if you’re not sure what types of photos you’ll take in each location, see Types of Branding Photos to get a better sense of what’s possible.

8 Location Ideas for Your Brand Photoshoot

1. Parks & Gardens

Since I love natural light photography, parks and gardens are some of my favourite spots for photoshoots. They offer a soft, organic, timeless feel that works beautifully for many types of brands — especially those that value calmness, authenticity, nature, or a lifestyle‑oriented aesthetic.

Parks and gardens are also incredibly versatile. You can shoot on pathways, near trees, beside flowers, on benches, or in open fields. Each area gives you a slightly different look, which means more variety in your final gallery.

Another major benefit: they’re free. This makes them accessible for every budget, and you can often find hidden gems right in your own neighbourhood.

The only drawback is seasonality. In winter, parks lose their colour and can feel dull or muddy. Lighting can also be harsh depending on the time of day, but that’s something your photographer will guide you through. A skilled photographer knows how to work with natural light — whether that means shooting during golden hour, finding shade, or using backlighting to create soft, flattering tones.

Parks and gardens are ideal if your brand is warm, approachable, grounded, or nature‑inspired.

2. Beach

The beach can set a very lovely background if it suits your style. Beaches naturally evoke feelings of freedom, ease, and openness. If your brand leans toward a fun, easy‑going, relaxed, or coastal vibe, this might be the perfect choice.

The soft sand, wide horizons, and gentle waves create a sense of calm and expansiveness. Beach photos also tend to feel airy and light, which works beautifully for coaches, creatives, wellness brands, and lifestyle‑focused entrepreneurs.

The beach is also great for movement shots — walking, spinning, interacting with props, or simply enjoying the environment. These candid moments often become some of the most authentic images in a gallery.

The only considerations are weather, wind, and crowds. Early mornings or weekday evenings are usually the best times to avoid too many people and get the most flattering light.

3. Cute City Neighbourhoods

City neighbourhoods tend to have more of an urban, vibrant feel. They’re perfect for brands that want to communicate energy, creativity, modernity, or a sense of being “in the world.” Think entrepreneurs who thrive in community, creatives who draw inspiration from their surroundings, or brands that want to feel dynamic and contemporary.

You can use storefronts, sidewalks, brick walls, staircases, cafés, and even crosswalks as part of your visual story. Each corner offers a new texture or colour palette.

If you’d like something a little edgier, consider a wall mural. These have been popping up everywhere lately and can set a really fun, bold backdrop that makes your photos uniquely stand out. Murals are especially great for brands that want to appear artistic, expressive, or unconventional.

The only challenge with city locations is navigating around people. Choosing a quieter street or shooting during off‑peak hours can make the experience much smoother.

4. Your Home or Backyard

One of the easiest choices for your personal brand photoshoot is your very own home. It’s convenient, comfortable, and cost‑effective. Shooting at home allows you to relax more easily, which often leads to more natural, authentic expressions.

Your home also reflects your personal style — your décor, your colours, your textures. If you’ve put effort into creating a space that feels like “you,” it can be the perfect environment for your brand photos.

Big windows are a huge plus because they allow in lots of natural light, which creates soft, flattering images. Neutral walls, tidy spaces, and intentional décor can elevate your photos significantly.

The key is cleanliness and minimal clutter. Even small distractions can pull focus away from you. When in doubt, snap a few photos with your phone and send them to your photographer for feedback.

If you have a nice backyard, you can also use it seasonally. Gardens, patios, fences, and outdoor seating areas can all add variety to your gallery.

5. Your Studio/Office

If you’re lucky enough to have your own office or studio, this is a no‑brainer. Your workspace is a direct reflection of your brand — your tools, your process, your environment, your creativity.

This location is especially powerful for artists, designers, makers, and service‑based entrepreneurs who want to show behind‑the‑scenes moments. These images help your audience understand how you work, what you value, and what makes your approach unique.

Studio or office photos also help build trust. Clients love seeing where the magic happens. It makes your brand feel more real, grounded, and professional.

6. Photo Studio

Photo studios have a bit of a stigma because many people picture stiff, boring headshots in an uncomfortable environment. But modern studios have evolved dramatically.

Today’s studios often look like chic living rooms, stylish offices, or beautifully curated lifestyle spaces. Some offer multiple “scenes” in one large room — different furniture, backdrops, props, and textures — giving you tons of variety without changing locations.

The cost to rent a studio is extra, but it can be well worth it if you want a polished, controlled environment with consistent lighting. Studios are also ideal if you can’t find any other suitable locations or if you want a clean, minimal aesthetic.

7. Cafes

Some cafés are incredibly cute and have beautiful décor that photographs well. They’re great for lifestyle‑oriented brands, entrepreneurs who work remotely, or anyone who wants to show a relaxed, approachable vibe.

You can shoot with a laptop, a notebook, a cup of coffee, or simply enjoy the environment. These images feel relatable and authentic — perfect for social media and website “about” pages.

Most cafés are free to shoot in, but some may require permission. It’s always respectful to buy a beverage or small item if you’re using someone else’s space.

8. Airbnb or Hotels

And finally, if your budget allows for it, you can always rent a beautiful Airbnb or hotel room. This option gives you complete control over the aesthetic — modern, cozy, luxurious, minimal, rustic, or anything in between.

Many Airbnbs are now designed specifically with photoshoots in mind, offering gorgeous décor, natural light, and multiple styled areas. This can give you a wide variety of looks in a single session.

Hotels can also be a great option, especially boutique hotels with unique design elements. They’re perfect for brands that want a polished, elevated, or travel‑inspired feel.

If this option interests you, do your research and coordinate with your photographer to choose a space that aligns with your brand identity.
