3 WAYS TO FIND BLOG TOPIC IDEAS WHEN YOU’RE STUCK

Not too long ago I wrote a post about blogging for business explaining the importance of doing it consistently.

As I already said there, blogging can have a massive impact on your business because when you blog regularly, your website traffic can increase exponentially.

However, whenever I talk to any type of entrepreneur, many of them seem to have one problem in common: not knowing what to write about.

Aghhh… I can totally relate because I’ve been there (and still experience this from time to time).

Consistent blogging is a big commitment and it’s not always easy-peasy. But, it helps to always keep in mind why you’re blogging in the first place.

The end goal of blogging is more site traffic. More site traffic = more potential clients coming to your site. So keep reminding yourself of this and don’t give up.

As for what to write about, here are a few examples of how to find blog topic ideas whenever you’re stuck.

1. STUDY YOUR COMPETITION

One of the best ways to get inspired is to study what your competition is already doing. Find a few top sites that are in your industry that you consider to be similar to yours and regularly visit their blog.

Check out what they’re talking about and start making your own list of possible topics to cover on your blog.

Please know that I’m not telling you to copy anyone. That’s not cool at all. What I’m suggesting here is to read some of their posts and put your own spin on some of the topics they’ve covered.

You can’t just copy and paste their posts, but you can take inspiration and write something similar in your own words, based on your own experience. Make sure to personalize each blog post you write and add something new to it as well.

One way to find bloggers in your niche is to search for them on Pinterest.

2. SURVEY YOUR AUDIENCE

Another way to get blog topic ideas is to survey the audience you already have.

Whether you have an email list, a social media following, or current readers, ask them what they want to learn more about.

These are some ways you could survey your audience:

  • Send an email to your list simply asking them what topics they’d like to see you cover

  • Post the same question on social media (Instagram and/or Facebook etc.) and ask them to answer directly in the post

  • Visit some Facebook groups where your ideal clients hang out and ask what they’re struggling with

  • Pay attention to any blog post comments you’ve received and if they’re asking further questions, consider answering them in a separate blog

  • Check out your Analytics to find out what your most visited posts are and create sub-topics expanding on those posts

3. EXPLORE E-BOOKS IN YOUR NICHE

E-books in your niche can be a great source of information that’s easy to digest. You don’t even need to spend a lot of time reading them.

All you have to do is go to a site like Amazon and look for books related to your industry.

Once you find some popular books, open up their content pages and make a list of all the topics the books discuss.

Do this with a few of them and bam, you’ve got a ton of blog post ideas in a matter of just a few minutes! Make sure to save this list for future reference.
