SHOULD YOU HIRE A COPYWRITER OR WRITE YOUR OWN WEB COPY?

Having a good copy on your site is really, really important. Some even argue that it’s the most important part of your website.

I personally think images are more important because they create the first impression. If I enter a site that has very poor photos and I don’t find it visually appealing, I might leave without even reading any of their copy. That’s just reality.

And I know it’s not just me because there have been studies done about this. Most people form their first impression within the first few seconds of entering a site. And if they don’t like what they see immediately, they leave the site, never to return again.

So for that reason, I’d say copywriting is the 2nd most important part of your website. But it’s still vital that you get it right because that’s what can ultimately help you make sales to those that did stay on your site to find out more.

The fact is, COPYWRITING CAN MAKE OR BREAK YOUR BRAND.

So should you hire a copywriter?

Writing attention-grabbing copy is definitely a skill set that you can learn. And like with everything else, the more you do it the better you get. Practice makes perfect.

Having said that, I know that it’s a skill that some people really struggle with. To be honest, I was really bad at it at first. When I created my very first website many years ago, I actually hired someone to write my About page for me because that’s how uncomfortable with it I was.

But now it seems like all I do is write copy and I’m consistently getting better at it. I chose to study everything I know about copywriting because it was important to me that all my copy be written in my own voice. And now I’m really glad that everything is written by me.

However, I think it’s totally fine if you hire someone professional to help you out. Especially if you really struggle with this and don’t want to take forever creating your copy.

Whether you decide to hire a professional copywriter or do it all yourself, there are benefits to both scenarios.

BENEFITS OF DOING IT YOURSELF

  • When you write in your own ‘voice’ your copy will be more authentic

  • You’ll be able to easily make your own changes down the road without spending money each time

And by the way, you can expect that there will be many changes you’ll need to make down the road, just a heads-up.

BENEFITS OF HIRING A COPYWRITER

  •  Having professionally written copy even if you’re not an expert in writing

  • Potentially saving yourself lots of time and hassle

So now you have a decision to make. Whatever you decide, I’m sure will be the right thing for you at this time.

Also, if you really want to learn about copywriting yourself, you can take some online courses. Simply do a Google search to find one that suits you.
