3 STEPS TO CREATING YOUR BRAND IDENTITY

How to create brand identity

We all know that creating a brand identity is important for a business. It’s a necessary component to allowing your business to grow. Without it, it’s like your business has no voice.

A brand identity helps your business stand out and it lets people know what your business stands for. It’s essentially the look, feel, and tone of your company. It’s the thing that helps your customers identify with you and establish a connection between them.

So whether you’re a new business or an established one with a need to clarify your brand identity, here are a few simple steps to help you get started.

1. Define your brand personality

The best way for your brand to stand out is to inject more of your personality into it. Avoid the copycat business if you want to dominate your market. To do this, you’ll need to determine what makes you unique. Every single one of us is unique, so don’t go saying that you got nothing. Then ask yourself what you want your brand to feel like. Do you want it to feel fun, serious, elegant, inspiring, sophisticated, or quirky? Make a list of your top adjectives that you want to be known for as a business.

2. Consider what’s driving your business?

What do you believe in above anything else? What is the purpose of your business? For example, if you’re a yoga teacher, you might believe that one of the most important aspects of life is to feel peace and tranquility. Your goal might be for more people to feel that in their daily lives to eliminate stress around the world. This could be the driving force behind your business and your brand should reflect that.

3. Decide on your brand aesthetic

Now decide on the visual look of your brand. If you don’t particularly have an eye for design, you can start by creating a Pinterest board of all the things that are aesthetically pleasing to your eye. Then pick your favourite colours that you would like to see throughout your brand. You could even study a bit of colour psychology to see how colours can affect people’s buying decisions. This process can actually be really fun.

Once you have all these pieces together, you need to decide whether you’ll be doing the work of designing your own branding or hiring an expert. This is totally up to you and depends on the level of your comfort with design. Just keep in mind that your website and branding will play a huge role in how your business is perceived by others. If you don’t have a professional-looking online presence, it could actually be detrimental to your success. I personally would not buy things from an ugly website that doesn’t inspire me in any way, would you? I’m just being honest here.

This doesn’t mean that your website needs to be complicated. Often, simplicity is more elegant. So if you can’t afford to hire a web designer yet, that’s totally cool. There are a ton of easy options for do-it-yourself websites. Give it a go if you’re up to it, but just remember that it will take you more time, so be patient with yourself. And always ask for feedback from others along the way.
