HOW I KEEP MYSELF HEALTHY WHILE RUNNING A BUSINESS

This article is a little different from the stuff I normally talk about, but I felt it was important to share and motivate you all.

We all know that running a business takes a lot out of you. It’s not like having a regular job where you go in to work for 8 hours or so, come back home, and forget about it.

Being an entrepreneur (especially if working from home) often means that you’re thinking about your business 24/7.

So even if you’re not working, your brain never stops. You find yourself thinking about marketing strategies while watching a Netflix movie and sometimes all kinds of ideas come to mind while you’re “supposed to be” relaxing or taking a break.

Or is that all just me? Please tell me it’s not just me. 😉

Anyway, there are things we must do to keep ourselves healthy and I know it can be a little hard sometimes.

But, the truth is, you are your business. So if you’re a solo entrepreneur and you get sick, your business may suffer because there’s nobody else to run it for you in the meantime.

That’s why it’s especially important for us to keep ourselves healthy and respect boundaries.

So I wanted to share some of my tips that have helped me personally keep my mind and body fit and healthy.

1. EATING HEALTHY

First of all, the number one thing for me is to eat a healthy diet. You really are what you eat, so this is probably the most important tip I can give you. I stay away from junk and focus on foods that are good for my body. Eating healthy also means having more energy and better focus because a clean diet helps your body function better.

I’m not going to tell you what kind of diet to follow because it’s a personal choice for everyone and I’m not a nutritionist. So do your own research and choose foods that are good for you.

2. MOVING MY BODY

Whenever I don’t exercise for a while, I feel like a slug. I have no energy and feel yucky about myself.

I know there are so many benefits to exercise, but sometimes I lack motivation. So to help myself out, I recently got myself a Fitbit (step-tracking watch).

Honestly, it has already helped me move my body a lot and got me outside more. And because my husband has one too, we get to have a little healthy competition by creating challenges to see who takes more steps each day. You gotta make it fun. ☺️

Besides that, I use YouTube all the time to do workouts I like from home. I don’t like going to the gym so this is the perfect solution for me. If you want to give it a try, just go in there and type in what type of workout you’d like to do. You’ll get endless choices for just about anything.

3. CALMING MY MIND

Okay, this one’s just as important as the other two.  A calm mind is the best thing for keeping stress at bay. And the best way to achieve a calm mind is, of course, meditation.

Ever since I went on a 10-day silent meditation retreat (Vipassana) back in 2015, I’ve been keeping a meditation practice because it’s seriously life-changing.

Again, if you’re new, YouTube has a ton of guided meditations to help you get started. Other than that, I love the Calm app! You can even set up a daily reminder to meditate with it, so you don’t forget.

Additionally, I love practicing yoga. I find that I always feel so much more centered and connected to myself after a yoga session. Plus, depending on what type of yoga you do, it can be both a workout and meditation all in one. Two birds with one stone. ☺

My favourite YouTube channel for yoga classes is Boho Beautiful.

4. HAVING BOUNDARIES

And finally, it’s super necessary to practice boundaries. This was never easy for me, but it got better when I decided to completely shut off my laptop for the weekend and try not to think about my business.

I tend to get obsessed when I’m working on something, so this is challenging. Nevertheless, I do everything in my power to give my mind a break on weekends. I try to focus on having fun with other things during those two days instead.

Now I’d love to hear from you! Got any healthy practices of your own you’d like to share? Comment below.
