COLOURS OF MISSISSAUGA (A PHOTO STORY)
Aside from doing personal brand photography, I also enjoy many other genres. In fact, one of my favourite things to do is simply walking around anywhere outside and taking random photos.
I love being outdoors and I love exploring new areas. Put a camera in my hand while doing that and I’m in heaven!
Since we weren’t allowed to do much else during times of Covid, I’ve been trying to do little personal photography projects as often as possible. They’ve been a good cure for boredom!
I also recently acquired a few new beautiful photography books to add to my collection. And one of them in particular gave me a bit of inspiration for a new project. The book is called “Paris in Color” by Nichole Robertson. It’s full of cute images grouped by one colour per section.
Simple, yet creative. It gave me food for thought!
When I was in Paris a few years ago, I didn’t pay attention to colour this way. However, I thought, why not try this in my own city for fun?
Mississauga proved to be a bit more challenging though. Turns out, it doesn’t have that much colour compared to those charming European cities. I don’t know if I could ever come up with enough material to create a whole book on colours of Mississauga unless I spent a lot more time on it (maybe).
But I did find some colours here and there, and below are the results of my photo excursions.
Starting with the colour blue, it was probably one of the easiest colours to find, especially in Port Credit by the water.
Pink wasn’t that easy, the only bits of this colour I could find was in flower arrangements across the city.
Red wasn’t too bad either, but again, I found most of it in the neighbourhood of Port Credit.
When it came to green, I felt a bit like it was cheating because there’s so much of it around found in nature. I kept wondering if it even counts.
Here’s a bit of black…
I think brown is probably the easiest to find, but it’s definitely not my favourite colour. I find it a bit drab.
Surprisingly, I couldn’t find any yellow except one floral arrangement. And only one orange building. Had to combine them both for this last one.
Now that I’ve written this post, I feel like starting this project all over again and finding some more colour! This was very fun, but I don’t feel satisfied just yet.
If you happen to live in Mississauga, please tell me if you know of any spots I can find some fun colour to photograph in the comments below.
Cheers!
